The Event
As you may have probably heard, NSW is organising the Clubbie Nationals in November 2009 and what better
place to hold it than the Snowy Mountains in the spring; beautiful
fresh air, interesting, empty roads, central to many clubbie enthusiasts,
and lots to see and do. Why not make it an opportunity to spend a week
exploring the area or renewing your acquaintance with it?
We are holding the Nationals mid-week with registration
on Sunday and events on Monday and Tuesday culminating in a formal dinner
on Tuesday evening. Holding it midweek instead of a weekend will
mean you only have to take time off during one week, rather than having
to break into two and it gives you the weekend to get there. Also there
will be less competition for accommodation and the roads, making the
event a much more enjoyable experience.

Planning Update October 09
We are now into the final few
weeks of preparation for the ClubbieNats 09. Only 7 weeks to
go!!!... so this is the last newsletter before the event.
84 cars are now registered making this the largest gathering of
clubbies outside of a capital city ever in Australia. All the
events are now in advanced stages of planning and the clothing
orders are now finalised and have been placed.
We have been very fortunate with solid support from several
major sponsors including
 |
Shannons |
 |
Westfield Sportscars
Australia and New Zealand |
 |
Wurth Australia
|
 |
Precision Auto Electrics
|
This has allowed the costs of
trophies and also deferred other costs of running the event
Also a major win in recent weeks was the approval being granted
from Snow River Shire Council for the Show and Shine event in
the main shopping centre – so we will be amongst the general
public. We have also made good progress with preparing the
hardcopy program that will become the mainstay of the event
operation.
So... everything looks to be falling in to place – we are on
track to having a most successful and memorable event. If you
are coming to Jindabyne, don't forget to keep an eye out for the
committee members in red shirts and hats. If you can lend a hand
to help with an event, please let a committee member know.
May all have a safe and enjoyable trip to, from and around
Jindabyne.
Planning
update, June 09
Time is fast running out on the preparation
for what will be the largest clubbie gathering in Australia since
Adelaide 2007, and perhaps the largest gathering ever (we need to
get over 100 cars). The committee has been meeting and pushing ahead
with preparations for events, meals, clothing and the logistics
– a formidable task for an event of this magnitude. I must thank
and congratulate all involved for their efforts to date.
We are targeting to start taking
bookings and collect monies for the event from around mid June.
Early bookers will be rewarded with an “early bird” discount. Attendees
will register and pay with us for the event but will book their
own accommodation with the Station. This will be explained on our
website or paper booking forms. Bookings will close mid-September
so don't wait or procrastinate when the bookings open.
Once the bookings commence, work
won’t stop, it will just change its focus to concentrate of the
details to ensure the event is a success. To spread the workload,
we will be looking for volunteer helpers to assist with the myriad
of tasks in running the event program. So... if you have a particular
interest in or talent we may be able to use in running the event,
please come forward and let me know, offers of help will be gratefully
received. Send me an email at
clubbienats09@clubmandrivers.com.

Planning
update, April 09
A couple of updates have been included
in recent CDCofA bi-monthly newsletters so I thought it worth giving
a summary here for those who aren't CDCofA members. I have
also included some tentative entry dates for your information from
our recent committee meeting.
By sheer chance, we had a new member,
who lives in Jindabyne, join the club and he has most generously
offered to help with organising activities and dealing with local
officials, such as the council... our man in Havana, so to speak.
He has already applied his local knowledge to the various runs and
made several suggestions for a spouse program. Many thanks
Chris.
During February, three of the organising
committee and their spouses spent a weekend in Jindabyne on a recce
to survey the run routes and prepare questions for an observation
run. So what does it entail? I wish I knew!! The
organising team are keeping tight lipped to make sure that everyone
who participates will be on a level playing field.
So... we are now starting to firm
up a budget for the event and plan to start taking entries in June.
The Station Resort has offered us a very attractive accommodation
and meals package and attendees will be asked to make accommodation
bookings directly with The Station.
Tentative dates are that entries
will open mid June, early-bird close at the end of July and final
entries close mid September. Entry and accommodation forms
will be available on this site for you to download and we will send
an email to everyone who has responded to the EOI letting you know
when entries are open.
Planning continues apace; lots to
do; so little time!!

Jindabyne 09 - December 2008
December 2008
|
Well, it
has been over a month since I inspected the Jindabyne area
and proposed venue on my way back from Echuca and I thought
I had better get the news out to every one.
First and
foremost, we have taken the liberty of doing the Aussie
thing to shorten the name of the event from the Clubbie
Nationals to “Clubbie Nats”. To distinguish this one from
any other, we have dubbed it Jindabyne 09 (got to be better
than Kevin 07!!).
In the
responses to our Expression of Interest (EOI - Thank you
everyone who responded so quickly), we have had a couple
of inquiries whether people with cars other than Clubbies
can attend. In keeping with the friendly traditions of GACR/Clubman
Nationals, the Jindabyne 09 Clubbie Nats welcomes anyone
who appreciates Clubbie virtues, whether the car is one
of the traditional 7 replicas, or a more recent concept.
Confirmation
of Event Dates
As per the response to the Expression of Interest, there
was a clear majority of people opting for the 15th-17th
November 2009. We have now booked those dates with the Station
Resort and once we shake down the program, we will get a
better idea of the costs.
The
Venue – Station Resort
The Station Resort is situated about 5 km out of Jindabyne
on the Dalgetty Road. It is primarily used for the ski season
so it has all the catering facilities we need and more than
enough space for us. The Station Resort is normally closed
during the summer and will open especially for us for Clubbie
Nats so we will have it to ourselves.
Facilites
Being a little way out of town, the Station Resort is designed
to cater for its guests. The following areas will be available
to us:
 | Bar (counter and bottleshop) |
 | Dining / Meals venue |
 | Courtyard |
 | Sealed carpark for Show and Shine |
 | Plenty of parking for tow cars and
trailers – we have the whole facility available |
 | Possibly access to other buildings
(e.g. ski hire hall for Registration) |
Accommodation
The accommodation is similar in concept to Hahndorf with
freestanding buildings in various configurations so we will
be able to accommodate everyone who wishes to attend, all
in one location. From the plan, approximate room counts
are:
 | 58 Yurts (double + 3 singles) |
 | 96 Lodges (double + 4 singles) |
 | 94 Lodges (6 singles) |
So, we have a location, a venue, dates,
a name and a logo. That leaves us to finalise a program.
Activities
The programme of activities is still coming together as
we speak but we have identified the major items for both
drivers and partners. We are currently considering two timetables,
the difference being whether the Partner Programme runs
for the whole of Monday morning, or just part. As you can
see, there is an abundance of things for partners to do
in the area.
For
Drivers
 | Clubbie Swinging – Take 4 others
on a short drive |
 | Organised Run |
 | Show'n'Shine and Clubbie Olympics |
 | Casual Runs |
For
Partners
 | Dalgetty visit cafe,nursery and/or
pub |
 | Gallery visits (Michael Scott Lees
and Kunama (Jindabyne), and Ray Killen (Berridale)) |
 | Winery (Berridale) |
 | Wildbrumby Distillery (Thredbo road)
– cakes, coffee, sculpture walk, studio and gallery |
 | Thredbo Walk |
 | Lake Crackenback resort (coffee/lunch) |
 | Crackenback cottage – restaurant,
maze, local food |
 | Guided Walks |
 | Trout Farm?? |
 | Full day bus trip (wilderness or
history) – from $99 |
Information
for Participants
 | Getting There – we plan on providing
suggested routes from North, South, East and West |
 | Accommodation Packages with and without
meals, and meals only |
 | Park Passes – currently $16 per day |
 | The Snowy River Festival is on 13-15
Nov 09 so you may wish to arrive early for that. |
 | Jindabyne has ANZ, Westpac, Commonwealth,
St George ATMs. |
